What happens to the baby?

For sure, your baby grows more at length than at width. Imagine his/her small head – its diameter is about 6 cm, while the length of his/her whole body is about 26 cm.

His/her delicate skin becomes thicker and is not so transparent. It now can completely cover the veins below. The sweat glands that start to generate transparent adipose substance come into existence. This adipose substance will come to the surface and will cover the skin.

Even closed with the eyelids, the baby’s eyes continue their development. The iris pigmentation is completed and a few weeks after the delivery you will be able to see what the colour of his/her eyes has been in your womb!

What happens to you?

The amount of blood in your body has increased to ensure the necessary additional 25% of the blood mass for the placenta. The reason is that in this way you will feed your growing baby.

However, this makes the bringing up of the blood to your heart more difficult and you may feel some inconveniences you should be well prepared for. One of them is that the pressure on the capillaries may cause slight bleeding from your nose and gums.

Another consequence you can expect is formication and burden in your legs, varicose veins, and in some cases hemorrhoids.

The increased amount of blood overloads the veins and might cause their expansion. In its turn, this decreases your tonus and the blood pressure may drop unusually. If you feel weakness or dizziness, take a seat (or lie down, if possible), and quickly take a glass of water. Stay in this position until you refresh or feel better.

On the other hand, your kidneys function rapidly in order to purify the toxins from the blood, as your body tries to release most of them during the pregnancy. In order to facilitate their maximum function, it is better to drink as much liquids as you can.

This week you should ...

make a study – It is not necessary to be a real Sherlock Holms but it’s well to be aware of the opportunity to visit schools for pregnant women. They may prepare you for the anticipated event and may give you useful guidelines how to take best care for you during the pregnancy and for your baby after his/her birth.

continue with the exercises – You can continue practicing sport during this period. What is important is to avoid any exercises performed while lying on your back. The exercises that are useful for you are those that reduce the congestion of blood in the veins and that strengthen the vault of your feet.
